  • Because we are not Indigenous to these lands. Other language we use to describe ourselves as non-Indigenous peoples to these lands include ‘occupier’; since from the perspective of the colonial project european peoples were invited and enticed by the crown to come and occupy Indigenous lands in order to reinforce and grow the colony.

  • yes, overall this website and our offerings are mostly aimed at white people so we can collectively account for our role and complicit contribution to Indigenous specific racism. If you are a racialized person; a Person of Colour who is non-indigenous to these lands, and you are interested in interrupting settler colonialism there may be some content here that you find useful.  If you are interested in finding others who share your experience we may be able to connect you to POC facilitators doing this work, so feel free to reach out. 

  • No this work has been developed over a decade by so so many powerful thought leaders, creatives, scholars, and authors. Click here for a link to a resources list of what inspires and informs this work. Summeratively the work is possible due to the wisdom, courage and resistance of Indigenous people and peoples of the Global Majority over centuries… and is informed by:

    • racial affinity group/caucusing methodology

    • decolonizing and transformational pedagogy

    • critical whiteness and critical race theory

    • intersectional feminist theory

    • embodied and relational practice

    • trauma and violence informed systems thinking

    • complexity theory

  • you are ready for this work if you have done some initial cultural safety and humility/ indigenous specific anti-racism learning, and right now are feeling:

    • stuck, maybe in guilt, shame, fear and/or sadness as you continue to learn the true colonial history of canada 

    • like you want to know what to do next and feel like you can not see a way forward

    • worried about saying or doing the wrong thing around Indigenous peoples; or maybe have been called out, or called in by Indigenous peoples or others about your own language/approach or racism; 

    • a calling to go deeper on your decolonizing journey so you can be present, engaged and effective interrupting Indigenous specific racism in the systems that you live and work in

    • alone and isolated in this work, but also just in general. 

    and you are prepared to dig into your own emotional embodied experience of truth and accountability.

  • One of Our Unlearning’s favourite sayings is: “Colonialism lives in your calendar”! This work necessarily takes time. You can expect to spend a minimum of 3-5 hours a week on practical learning, and potentially more on your own emotional work and integration practice. The more time you invest, the more that the unlearning will happen and the deeper you will be able to engage in connection and relationships.

  • This one is a mind bender - are you ready? Time is socially constructed! How we choose to spend and invest our time is quite literally the exact place where we hold our own power and agency.   • Our Unlearning uses a sliding scale pricing system that rejects the capitalist push towards equality towards equitable access rooted in a relational trust based approach.

    This asks that those that can afford to pay, do - and those that cannot, don’t. Each participant is held capable to select the range that is in integrity with this trust based system. You tell us what you can pay, knowing that how you show up influences what is possible. please click here
