Upcoming Community Cohorts!

This advanced, transformational learning series, developed in relationship with and accountability to Indigenous scholars, curriculum developers and leaders, will investigate important concepts like whiteness, settler privilege, and decolonizing practices. Through a personal exploration of identity using an embodied ancestral approach we will focus on dismantling structures of overculture, increasing our capacity and building our stamina to deconstruct and decenter whiteness and settler colonialism.

Once you have participated in a community cohort, you will be invited to continue with the Our Unlearning network.

Below there is information about the cost and commitments of Our Unlearning.

Before we get to that….

Notes on money:

We know we are walking a fine line as we work to decenter ourselves (whiteness) through centering ourselves (white people) - paradoxical for sure.

White people charging money to do anti-racism work is contradictory and can feel uncomfortable. We see and feel the codependent relationship and pull between capitalism and colonialism. In addition to our commitment and determination to dismantle interlocking systems and structures of violence we also currently live in capitalism and are not free from needing to earn an income.

We are committed to continued critical self reflection, learning and unlearning; we are divesting from the practice of wealth accumulation / financial hoarding and are in active unlearning around our relationship to money.

We aim to acknowledge and balance:

  • equity in access for participants with intersectionality of lived experiences that centers and benefits those with less access to resources ;

  • program cost recovery and reinvestment in the survival and sustainability of the Our Unlearning collective and facilitators;

  • a reciprocity and accountability plan that flows funds and resources to local Indigenous restoration and resurgence initiatives.

Costs and Commitment

Our Unlearning Community cohorts require a minimum of 4-5 hours a week of active participation (including pre-recorded and live sessions, self directed reading, listening, walking, journaling, etc.) and a financial investment.

Our Unlearning uses a sliding scale pricing system that rejects the capitalist push towards equality towards equitable access rooted in a relational trust based approach.

This asks that those that can afford to pay, do - and those that cannot, don’t. Each participant is held capable to select the range that is in integrity with this trust based system. You tell us what you can pay, knowing that how you show up influences what is possible.

The more economic security you have the more your payment should feel uncomfortable. Justice is not possible without risk to those who hold the most privilege and wealth.

$850-$1200+ - PAY IT FORWARD. at this range you are covering the cost of this session, and investing in the development of the Our Unlearning platform, program delivery.   We invite you to consider paying this amount if you are employed, and/or have one or more academic degrees, and/or are paying 30% or less of income on rent, and/or have a mortgage, are in a double income family and/or have no children; are middle class and able to access intergenerational wealth (parents have investments and capital) and have any type of financial investments /saving (RRSP, pension etc); are food secure, able to eat out regularly, don’t have to stress about money when purchasing clothing, holidays/vacay, wine, concert tickets, subscriptions etc.

$650-$850 - ENOUGH NUMBER. this is the cost of running this individual session.  We ask that you make an effort to pay this amount if you have an income, have had access to post secondary education and are able to feed yourself and your family, but like so many of us still have to juggle to make things work each month since we live in aggressive state of capitalism. Like most thing we invest in (over and above our basic survival costs) this payment could require a financial stretch.

< 650 - PAY WHAT YOU CAN. let us know what you can afford.

Free: no need to explain - you are welcome here.
